Celebrate youth leadership in our community! Nominate a young changemaker ages 14 to 24 for the KYAC Youth Awards
The Office of the Mayor and Council, City of Kitchener, is inviting students aged 10 to 12 to take part in My Ideal City, an annual civic engagement program that gives young people an opportunity to learn how municipal government works, and to have their voices heard.
Families looking to make the most of spring break won’t have far to go. Kitchener’s parks, playgrounds, trails, skateparks and the Kitchener Market are buzzing with opportunities to stay active, explore and make new memories.
Plus, the City of Kitchener is offering a variety of no‑ and low‑cost activities for children, youth and families to enjoy throughout March Break — making it easy to play, discover and have fun close to home.
Kitchener, ON – Kitchener City Council has approved the City’s Municipal Newcomer Strategy, a community and economic development strategy designed to support economic participation, cultural inclusion and ensure that City services can be accessed by everyone in our community.
When spring approaches, more potholes begin to appear on city streets. The City of Kitchener’s operations crews are working around the clock to inspect city streets and repair potholes, and there are ways residents can help.

Earlier this morning, Kitchener Fire (KFD) responded to a two-storey garage/shed fire located at Vanier Drive in Kitchener. The call came in at approximately 4:40 a.m., and four fire trucks were dispatched to the scene. Upon arrival, crews encountered an active fire within the structure and began suppression efforts.
With double-digit temperatures on the way, City of Kitchener crews are conducting weekly inspections of likely locations for localized flooding, and so far, conditions are looking good for a safe melt.
Kitchener, Ontario – This year, the City of Kitchener and our annual Kitchener Athletic Awards ceremony is proud to partner with Explore Waterloo Region’s Athlete of the Year and Outstanding Athletic Achievement awards, to jointly celebrate the accomplishments of our community’s finest athletes, teams and coaches. The awards event will be held on Tuesday, March 24 from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Bingemans in Kitchener.
Applications are now open for the City of Kitchener’s 2026 Artist in Residence program. This year’s program will focus on the local music industry and appoint a Musician in Residence for the first time since 2019. Kitchener’s Artist in Residence program is the oldest of its kind in Canada, encouraging artists to develop their practice or interests as they engage and collaborate with the community. The City is now accepting applications from classic car owners, businesses and entertainers who are interested in showcasing their work at one of the City’s summer events.
